POV Memory

Who owns the image of a person: the person, or the machine that recorded them.

A film about two kinds of recording. Film and video are warm and personal, the frame is chosen by whoever holds the camera. Surveillance footage and thermal imaging are institutional, unasked for, and they accuse.

A man crosses from one system of recording into the other and is caught by the one he never controlled. Around that crossing the film builds an archaeology of the recorded image and of post-Soviet military culture.

The film was picked as a Vimeo Staff Pick and travelled to True/False, which is the audience that verifies American experimental work.
